Taizhou Disabled Persons’ Federation May 19, 2024
May 19th this year is the 34th National Day for the Disabled, with the theme of "Technology helps the disabled, sharing a better life". Currently, with the emergence of a number of "black technologies" to help the disabled, a large number of technological products that hit the "pain points" of the lives of people with disabilities are working hard to eliminate the gap between them and the outside world. In Taizhou, the Disabled Persons' Federation system is constantly bringing appropriate scientific and technological achievements to people with disabilities, and based on relevant subsidy policies, more and more disabled friends are starting a "barrier-free" life.
Wearing a throatless speaking aid, aphasic people can communicate smoothly with others; using navigation glasses for the blind, visually impaired people can walk safely outdoors; sitting in a sports wheelchair, special groups of people can also participate in sports competitions...
Linhai High-tech Assistive Devices Experience Center is located in the Linhai Disabled Persons’ Federation building, with a total area of more than 700 square meters. It has 10 presentation rooms, including an assistive device experience center, a guided training experience room, an autism experience center, an immersive situational body sensing house, a barrier-free cinema, a barrier-free bedroom and other functional areas.
Walking into the experience center, a barrier-free car driving simulator attracted a lot of attention. This simulator uses a triple screen to present a panoramic view, with real vehicle operating parts and car cockpit appearance, to create an immersive driving experience. "In addition, such as eye trackers, cochlear implants, ultrasonic electronic blind sticks, etc., can help disabled people 'clear' obstacles in life." said Zhang Jiaojiao, deputy director of the Comprehensive Service Center of Linhai Disabled Persons' Federation.
Smart assistive devices should not only allow disabled friends to “see” them, but also allow them to “use them”.
In February this year, Xiao Feng, a resident of Linhai, replaced his ordinary prosthesis with an intelligent bionic leg produced by a technology company. After several months of adaptation, he feels that he can walk more easily and steadily now, and he may be able to run and play badminton through training.
"Compared with traditional prostheses, bionic legs can detect the wearer's neural and muscle electrical signals through electrodes, combined with the built-in sensor system and algorithm processing to achieve real-time adaptation to the movement state." said Wang Yongping, marketing director of Taizhou Jiaokang Prosthetics and Orthotics Co., Ltd., who is responsible for the assembly work.
He introduced that as disabled friends' pursuit of quality of life gradually improves and relevant subsidy policies become better and better, more and more disabled people have come to install intelligent assistive devices in recent years.
Recently, the Provincial Disabled Persons' Federation issued the latest "Implementation Measures for the Adaptation Service of Basic Assistive Devices", which included intelligent bionic upper limb prostheses, intelligent bionic thigh prostheses, sports wheelchairs, and intelligent wearable devices for the blind in the scope of subsidies. Xiao Feng is one of the disabled people in Taizhou who benefited from this subsidy policy and received free installation of intelligent bionic legs.
A relevant person in charge of the Rehabilitation Guidance Center of Taizhou Disabled Persons’ Federation said that smart bionic legs have just been included in the catalog of assistive devices for the disabled, and navigation glasses for the blind are even more common. Last year, a total of 59 smart glasses for the blind were distributed free of charge in Taizhou city.
In addition, many public service places in Taizhou are also using smart devices to facilitate more participation of disabled friends in social activities. For example, in 2022, under the leadership of the Wenling Disabled Persons' Federation, the Wenling Sports Center implemented barrier-free renovations on the stadium, adding a wheelchair lift on the outdoor ramp and inside the stadium, allowing disabled people to smoothly "walk" to the audience seats to watch the game.
In life, people with disabilities still need everyone's help in many cases.
Open your phone and enter "Zhejiang Liban" and log in to the "Taizhou Disabled Assistance and Smart Governance" application. Whether you want to apply for assistive devices such as wheelchairs and crutches, or want to start a business or work, disabled friends only need to find relevant disabled assistance micro-projects that meet the requirements and they can apply to participate in order to meet their needs.
Since the launch of the "Taizhou Disabled Assistance and Smart Governance" application in August last year, a warm current of helping the disabled has continued to emerge in various parts of Taizhou, including regular visits to disabled families, sending comfort items to disabled friends, and implementing home accessibility modifications.
According to statistics, as of now, the application has launched 258 public welfare projects, and more than 9,000 disabled people have received assistance.
"In the future, Taizhou Disabled Persons' Federation will continue to rely on technological empowerment, promote the intelligent transformation of services and management for people with disabilities through the application of smart application scenarios and big data interconnection, and turn the beautiful picture of modernization of the cause of people with disabilities into a happy reality." A relevant person in charge of Taizhou Disabled Persons' Federation said.
